Janice was born in Ripley, New York where she spent the first 20 years of her life. She enjoyed drawing and creating things from a very young age. Janice took every art class in high school she could. When she went to college she started out taking art classes along with some communications. Along the way she met her husband to be and moved to Michigan. She put her career on hold for a few years. While her daughters were young she felt that need again to fulfill the creative side of her personality and took up art again but decided against the oil painting she had been doing because having 2 young children was not conducive to having oil paints out or the paintings while they dried. She discovered another local artist in Albion who painted with watercolor and her technique was so captivating that Janice decided to try her hand at that medium also. She discovered that while it dried quickly, there was still a lot to learn about watercolors versus oil. Today, Janice still paints almost exclusively with watercolor but does revert back to charcoal on occasion.
Janice paints a variety of subjects; mostly what catches her eye. She has done a few pet portraits as well as human portraits and outdoor scenes. She says her style is still evolving as she branches out and tries different mediums and subjects.
